Operations Manager Simon Overend said “Having prayed for an improvement in the weather last week, we were blessed with fine weather during set-up which was a blessing to us and especially to campers. We never know how many to expect on the first night, but were thrilled that the tent was close to capacity. Clearly even in these challenging economic times people still value all that the Convention programme has to offer.

A full programme is underway with a children’s and youth programme, plus in this first week Abide for 19-24 year olds. More information about the programme is available here.

A dynamic new partnership has been formed between Keswick Ministries and IVP, representing a strategic and multi-stranded alliance to serve the church around the world.

The aim of the partnership is to bring the very best of Christian resources to Keswick Convention attendees, to Christians throughout the UK and across the world, as well as resourcing new generations of leaders across the majority world.

IVP will publish a range of new titles, including the Keswick Foundations family of books, a Keswick Study Guide, the annual Keswick Year Book and other resources, including electronic publications, flowing out from the annual Convention. IVP will also operate the bookshops at the annual Convention, as well as resourcing attendees throughout the year. A percentage of all sales will support the costs of the Convention, in addition to supporting IVP’s Growing Timothys mission scheme which provides free resources for a new generation of leaders in Africa and Asia.

John Risbridger, Chairman of Keswick Ministries, said: “We are looking forward to the strategic benefits that will flow from this broad-ranging partnership. We have been very happy with our previous bookshop partner, 10ofthose.com, but this new arrangement offers extensive publishing opportunities, and the chance to support the church in Africa and Asia as well as to serve the needs of our guests at the Convention and throughout the year.”

Keswick Ministries is the umbrella name for several significant activities, including the annual Keswick Convention, which now attracts nearly 15,000 people each summer over a three-week period. An annual Bible Convention has been held since 1875 in the town of Keswick, in the heart of the beautiful English Lake District.

Inter-Varsity Press (known as IVP) has been publishing Christian books for over 75 years. IVP promotes and distributes titles from IVP and a range of partner publishers both across the UK and around the world.

In taking up the role John said: "Our focus, however, is not on the past but on our vision for the future which is to seek the renewal of the church for its mission in today's world, confident in the power and relevance of the scriptures and dependent on the transforming presence of the Holy Spirit.

"I am excited and daunted in equal measure about the opportunity to serve Keswick Ministries as its Chair, working alongside the excellent team of staff and trustees, and am deeply grateful for the prayers and support of so many."

Therefore Go is an interactive training event led by Andrew Baughen, Vicar of St James Clerkenwell, which will use a combination of Bible study, seminar teaching, discussion of video case studies and practical work in small groups. The material has been used and developed at Convention over recent years. The day will give each of us more confidence in our daily conversational evangelism by equipping us with the knowhow to therefore go.

On the opening night of this year’s Convention John Risbridger prayed that those attending Convention this year “be blessed, in order that they might be a blessing when they return to their local churches and communities”. I truly believe that many people have been blessed by God, and that there will be much fruit as a result of the seeds that have been sown. It has been a joy to read the many positive comments that have come, and continue to come into the office – thank you for them.

In church yesterday our focus was on prayer and we were reminded – As man works, man works. As man prays, God works. We thank God for the vast army of prayer warriors who support us year round, and know only too well that it is in His strength and not our own, that we do His will, for His glory. A special thank you too to all those who worked so tirelessly, on all the teams that make Convention so special – you are too numerous to mention, but God knows each one of you.

We will be updating the website as we progress with the plans for the 2012 Convention, and adding some photographs of this year’s event which we hope will bring back some happy memories, and help you share something of Convention with friends who might not have been before.

The live relay of the morning meetings to the Earthworks marquee at the Rawnsley site, introduced this year, has worked well and been welcomed by those making us of this facility.'

Evenings in Costa

This is the third year that Costa has thrown open its doors in the evening to some of the young adults, aged between 19-24, attending the Convention for the Abide track, and around one hundred have gathered there each evening. Chris Slater, who heads up this track, said it was 'Great to see young people excited about their faith and getting into God's word.'

With the schools in England still finishing off their terms, most of the children and young people attending the event are drawn from Scotland and Northern Ireland, and they too have been enjoying the Convention.

Warm Welcome from the Town

On the opening night, Roger Purkiss  welcomed conventioners, encouraging them to visit the town's attractions and shops. Other local dignatories attended, together with local clergy.

BBC Radio 4 are recording one of the evening Celebrations this week, and it will be broadcast on Sunday morning at 8am.
