Make a Donation
Since it’s beginnings in 1875 the Convention has depended on gifts and donations to meet the costs of the event rather than charging registration fees. We feel this is the right approach for the Convention and we have never been disappointed by the Lord’s provision, through His people, to cover all the costs.
You may be surprised to learn that the Convention has an annual budget of some £900,000. This includes the cost of putting on the event, accommodation for all the team, running the children’s and youth events, organising missionary support, advertising and promoting the event and all the administrative work beforehand! As well as this is the ongoing maintenance of the buildings and equipment. We do raise a small amount of income from the premises after the Convention but we still need large sums of money by way of gifts to cover the expenses. We estimate it costs about £65 per person per week.
Your giving is vital to the ongoing work of Keswick Ministries. Every gift, however small, really makes a difference to us and to all those who benefit from the Convention each year and there are a number of ways in which you can give:
- Standing Order – this assists the Treasurer who then has the knowledge of regular income flow: it eases administration in the office in not having to process cheques, and also frees you from having to remember to send off your donation! Giving by standing order automatically makes you a Partner.
- Cheque or charity voucher – made payable to Keswick Convention Trust and sent to Keswick Ministries, Skiddaw Street, Keswick, Cumbria CA12 4BY.

If you pay tax in the UK, then Gift Aid is a simple way to increase the value of your gift to a charity. Making your donation using Gift Aid will enable the charity to reclaim the basic rate tax on your gift to them. This means that if you give £10 to charity using Gift Aid, that gift is worth £12.50 to the charity (based on reduced rate of basic rate tax effective from April 2008). The charity can only reclaim the basic rate of tax if you have paid enough tax for the tax year to cover the amount reclaimed on your gifts.Give As You Earn
If your employer has made arrangements with the Inland Revenue and an agency such as the Charities Aid Foundation, then you can ask to have a deduction made from your salary and handed over to a charity of your choice. You save tax on this and the charity receives the gift Gross. So if you give £20 per month, your tax saving will be £4.00 so the gift will cost you only £16.00. The charity receives the full £20 (based on reduced rate of basic rate tax effective from April 2008).Wills and Legacies
When your natural life comes to an end, all your property is handed over to representatives who distribute your possessions according to your WILL (if there is one) or according to a formula established by law. So without a valid WILL your property may not go where you would like it to go. INHERITANCE TAX is payable on the value of your property and this can be ENORMOUS. There are perfectly legitimate ways of reducing this form of taxation by making a WILL that distributes your property in a particular way – see your solicitor or accountant to explore ways of doing this. One of the key exemptions from Inheritance tax is a gift to charity under your WILL.
I would urge you to make a WILL and to be sure your WILL is tax efficient. A legacy to the KESWICK CONVENTION TRUST will not only be tax efficient but it will help to secure the blessings of the Convention ministry for future generations.
Giving some of your Investments
If you are in the position of having a portfolio of investments and a high tax bill, then you can benefit by handing over some of your investments to a charity. In this way you save tax (possibly at 40%), reduce your estate for inheritance tax purposes, reduce potential capital gains tax as well as benefiting a charity. A similar scheme covers the gift of land or buildings to charity. You will need to speak to your professional adviser before going ahead with such a gift.
